Airport Security Fee

Airplane passengers who land on the Cape Verde Islands should – in most cases – pay a security surcharge. This security surcharge in Cape Verde is called the Airport Security Fee (TSA) and covers the costs for border security, prevention and safety. Nowadays, most countries require a security surcharge. For the use of an airport within the European Union, for example, this extra charge is included in the flight ticket.

For who is the Airport Security Fee obliged?

For most air passengers, the Airport Security Fee (TSA) is obliged. The security fee applies to international and domestic airline passengers who use one of the airports on the Cape Verde islands. There are a number of exceptions, namely:

  • Children under 2 years;
  • Passengers on national official missions;
  • Passengers of aircraft that use an airport in Cape Verde due to force majeure (e.g. meteorological);
  • Transfer passengers;
  • Citizens with a Cape Verdean passport, their children under the age of 18 and spouses;
  • Residents with a passport other than those of Cape Verde on presentation of the residence permit, residence visa or other valid identification document.

What is the amount of the security fee?

Domestic flights
The security fee for domestic flights is around 150 CVE (about 1.36 euro). This amount is usually charged when you purchasing the flight ticket.

International flights
The security fee for international flights is around 3,400 CVE (approximately 30.80 euro). The amount can be paid at the time of registration via the EASE platform registration is required. For the address see the following section.

Mandatory registration form and Airport Security Fee (TSA)

Registration must be made before departure to Cape Verde via the form of the online platform Ease.gov.cv. Preferably at least 5 days before departure. You will be asked for passport data, arrival and departure dates, flight number, place of accommodation, et cetera.

Note I: the implementation of the foregoing can still be in a transition phase. The security fee can also be paid to customs in cash or credit card, but with a small additional extra charge. If you have booked a trip through a travel organization, there is a chance that the tour operator has already arranged the registration / security fee for you. To be sure, always ask your tour operator whether the Airport Security Fee is included.
Note II: sometimes the platform of Ease.gov.cv is giving issues (errors). We would advice you to contact the website owners by mail: ease-support @ cv.zetes.com or via other ways.

Visa

Before leaving to the Cape Verde Islands, verify if you need a visa. And whether your passport is valid for a sufficient period of time.

    Hello, I bought a ticket from Milan to Sal and I have already done the ease, but yesterday I had to change my flight that will leave one day before. Please, tell me if I need to change something in the previously ease or it is still valid? Thanks Regards Gianluca

      Hi Gianluca,

      We are not sure, we would recommend you to check it with Ease.gov.cv. Contact details are displayed on the platform.

      Good luck,

      Hello,

      As a Zambian passport holder you need a visa to enter Cape Verde. A visa can indeed be obtained upon arrival at any of the international airports.

    Hi we are a family of 4 British Citizens. We are travelling to Sal in August and have organised flights ourselves via TAP airlines. We arrive to Sal around Midnight. Do you know if we have to pay the tax via the EASE website or can this paid at the airport?

    We are not to clever with modern technology or on line forms so we are hoping that everything can be sorted out at Sal airport, when we arrive, regarding both arrival and departure.

    The last thing we would want is to be stuck

    Your assistance and help is much appreciated. Thank you

      Hello Iain,

      It is ‘better’ – for you own waiting time on the airport – to register and pay the security fee on advance via platform of EASE. However, do no worry if this is not working for you. On arrival this can also be done (payment with cash (Euro) or credit card, alhough subjected to a small additional fee. The last thing for the Cape Verdean government is that you will be stuck, they will definitely help you.

      Enjoy your holiday!

    I am also finding it impossible to use the online form to Register. Are you saying that it is alright to arrive in Praia without prior registration. I am due to arrive on June 14th 2019.

      Hello Elizabeth,

      Yes this is possible, but if you still have the opportunity it is better to do it in advance via the EASE platform (www.ease.gov.cv) if it is working. Some travellers manage to get through the process without receiving any errors.

      Good luck,

      Hello Attila,

      This is known issue and we are facing the same. Hopefully they can fix it as soon as possible! As alternative, registration can also be completed at one of the international airports in Cape Verde.

      Hello Joyce,

      With a passport of Ghana you can enter Cape Verde without a tourist visa, however you need to register and have to pay an airport security fee (online or on arrival).

    Hi,
    We are a family of five travelling to Santiago in April for 10 days. Danish and English heritage, so I gather we DO NOT need a visa, but do need to register on https://registration.cv.zetes.com/Pages/CapeVerde/PersonalInfo.aspx in order to pay for the airport security tax, is that right?
    I have however, tried many times on different days and different times to log on to the above website, but with no luck. It keeps on telling me there is an error on the page!
    Please could you advice me as to how I best proceed?
    Thank you in advance
    Puk Hede
