Street art Cape Verde #2

This is the second part about street art (murals) in Cape Verde. In the first part about street art, we told you that this visual art was created in the public space. The goal of street art is that artists want to make the street more beautiful. Street art is about the originality and beauty of the mural. This is not to be confused with graffiti. In the first part we showed a photo series of street art on the island of Santiago.

If you are looking wel you will find street art in Cape Verde at the craziest places. Cape Verdeans love a lot of color. Like the Cape Verde music and the carnival, the murals are also very colorful. In this second part we will show you some murals that can be seen on the islands of Fogo, Santo Antao and Sao Vicente. From simple designs to full detailed images.

On this wall, some of the Cape Verde islands are depicted with a central place for Sal (left island on image) and Boavista. Cape Verdeans are proud of their country. This big blue wall brings some cosiness in the street.

This mural was created by Deih in 2014. Deih is a top street art artist from Spain invited by the Sete Sois Sete Luas street art festival to paint a new artwork on Santo Antao. Deih is internationally renowned and makes beautiful drawings throughout the world. This wall image is definitely more than 15 meters wide. So big that it did not fit into 1 photo and we therefore recorded the drawing in three parts. The longer you look at this mural, the more details you see. Amazingly handsome.

Island hoppers will definitely encounter this ‘I Love’ mural. On almost every island you will see this one, only the name of the island or city having been changed. For example, on Sao Nicolau there is a beautiful brightly colored ‘I love Sao Nicolau’. The above drawing is made at Sao Vicente in Mindelo.

On the island of Fogo you will find this house with a very sophisticated mural. The plants and trees reinforce the drawing. Do not miss this mural if you are on Fogo!

The message as pictured above on the wall painting on Fogo says enough. The natural wealth of Cape Verde is impressive and is often still untouched. Keeping everything tidy is the least we can do.
